Shaggy Rugs in Contemporary Motifs

Expanding on the tactile qualities of a long-pile rug, this edit gathers graphic patterns and distinct colorways within the shaggy expression. Crafted from wool, each piece is made by hand in Bhadohi, India—a region globally recognized for its deep roots in textile craftsmanship. Here, skilled artisans translate contemporary LAYERED motifs into rich, voluminous textures using traditional weaving techniques.

The Return of Rya – Defined by Swedish artist Evelina Kroon

A new perspective of what a rya rug can be, this collection celebrates the interplay between art and textile craftsmanship. Each piece brings Evelina Kroon’s graphic play into textile by skilled artisans in Bahodi, India.

Handwoven from 100% New Zealand wool, the series embraces a wild energy where long, shaggy piles create a living surface of depth and dimension. Each rug offers an untamed expression that blurs the boundary between art and interior design in its most tactile form yet.

Shaggy Edge – A homage to the traditional rya

Rooted in a Scandinavian long-pile design dating back to 15th-century Norway, the LAYERED design team has reimagined the traditional rya in a contemporary design. The result is an authentic piece of craftsmanship where traditional weaving meets modern Scandinavian aesthetics, designed to add warmth, depth, and timeless character to any space.

Handwoven in Bahdoi, India, from 100% New Zealand wool, the choice of material is central to the collection's expression, selected for its natural resilience and unique ability to maintain volume and shape over time. Each rug is defined by a distinct 50 mm pile, providing a rich, tactile texture.

Swedish Homage – A balance between shaggy and the structure of handwoven wool

The Swedish Homage Collection resides in the intentional space between a classic shaggy and a traditional wool rug. With a defined 12 mm pile, Swedish Homage offers a refined texture that brings a sense of volume without losing its graphic clarity.

The collection pays tribute to the pioneering female textile artists of the 20th century, whose design language and vision have left a lasting mark on our design heritage. By integrating rya-inspired details with traditional weaving techniques, the collection seamlessly blends timeless design with a rich tactile quality.
